Single Origin Coffee Beans

We are excited to introduce the latest addition to our Summit coffee line-up: Mount Kenya. These exquisite single origin coffee beans are sourced from the Mukarimu Estate, nestled in the fertile Mount Elgon region on the slopes of Mount Kenya.

Managed by dedicated farmer Charles Mutwiri, this estate is a testament to Kenya's rich agricultural heritage and the meticulous care invested in every coffee bean.

Charles Mutwiri’s unwavering commitment to quality shines through in every step of the production process. The coffee beans are dried on raised beds, a method that promotes better air circulation and water drainage compared to traditional patios. This innovation leads to more even drying and results in a superior final product.

In an industry where the well-being of coffee farmers is often neglected, we are determined to make a positive impact. By sourcing our coffee directly from farmers like Charles, we ensure they receive a fair price, far above what conventional supply chains typically offer. This direct trade model not only provides financial support but also empowers farmers to invest in their land and hire local workers, fostering job creation and economic growth within their communities.

Experience the future of coffee

In the verdant landscapes of 1978, Mukarimu Coffee Estate sprouted its roots as a humble endeavour, driven by the unwavering commitment of Mutwiri. With a modest inheritance of 150 coffee trees from his father, Mutwiri embarked on a journey that would shape the future of coffee cultivation in the region. The inaugural harvest in 1979 marked the beginning of a remarkable saga of dedication and perseverance.

As Mutwiri toiled tirelessly on his burgeoning plantation, his efforts caught the attention of his mother, who graciously contributed another 100 trees, fuelling the growth of the estate. The pivotal moment arrived in 1992 when Mutwiri dared to dream bigger, expanding the estate by leasing an additional 800 coffee trees, bringing the total to 1050. By 2011, what was once a modest plot had blossomed into a sprawling 5-acre expanse, teeming with potential.
